News: It's official: the mega-billion dollar company created by Sprint and Clearwire and funded in part by Comcast, Google, Intel, Time Warner, and Bright House Networks is a done deal. The new company, which will operate under the name Clearwire, will take over all of Sprint's existing 4G assets, from towers to spectrums, and all future developments will be under the Clearwire umbrella.

The biggest change that this finalization brings is that the XOHM brand is being absorbed by the new company. Clearwire will be using the name "Clear" to brand their WiMAX network, and the existing XOHM network and products will be re-branded to match. If you have XOHM products or service, don't worry: the change is only in the name! Your modems will still work and you shouldn't see any interruptions in the service itself.

Your map shows Clearwire's 3G service - www.clearwire.com/store/service_areas.php . Not the Clear.com's 4G WiMax service.  That is only available in Portland and Atlanta.  Unfortunately, the hardware for the 3G and 4G service are different so for national travelers, Clearwire is still pretty limited.  Although the Sprint-Clearwire JV has been legally completed, the companies have not begun merging their networks or sales plans.

Here is a 10 April 09 chat with www.clear.com CS rep to clarify.

Ashley Jackson [1:54:21 PM]: Welcome to our real-time support chat. How can I help you today?
cyberbiker [1:54:21 PM]: 1. Clear.com is suppose to be the WiMax joint venture between Sprint and Clearwire. Is that not correct?
Ashley Jackson [1:55:14 PM]: That is correct.
cyberbiker [1:55:30 PM]: The Clear.com site does not offer service in the Baltimore area where 4G has been operational by Sprint. why?
Ashley Jackson [1:56:34 PM]: Clear does not have towers setup in this area.
cyberbiker [1:58:25 PM]: Since Clear is the JV btw Sprint and Clearwire, is it offering the same 4G plans as Sprint or is it not blending with Sprint 4G service?
Ashley Jackson [1:59:19 PM]: It is not blending together.
cyberbiker [1:59:49 PM]: Is there a map that shows in what cities Clear.com WiMax service is available?
Ashley Jackson [2:00:02 PM]: Since we're fairly new, we do not have a final coverage map posted on our site just yet. However, we are working to get one for you. You can check coverage by entering in familiar addresses that you go to frequently, though.
cyberbiker [2:01:25 PM]: Is Clear WiMax service available in any cities other than Portland, OR?
Ashley Jackson [2:01:48 PM]: We do offer in Atlanta, GA as well
cyberbiker [2:02:03 PM]: If one purchase a Clear Unlimited Mobile 4G service in Portland, OR, does the USB modem pick up a wireless signal and permit access in all the cities listed on the coverage map at www.clearwire.com/store/service_areas.php ? In other words, if someone has a clear.com 4G plan will the usb modem downgrade and roam in all the cities in the 50+ Clearwire wireless service areas?
Ashley Jackson [2:02:40 PM]: That is Clearwire coverage map. Clear and Clearwire operate on different towers.
cyberbiker [2:03:49 PM]: OK. I have been a mobile subscriber on another service for 3 years and just wanted to see if your service would serve me as well or better.
Ashley Jackson [2:04:55 PM]: Can I help you with anything else today?
cyberbiker [2:05:48 PM]: No. I live in Reno, NV and to get adequate wireless service while traveling, I better stick with what I have. Thank you. Bye.

This is a good link to see speedtests.  However, the speeds at the lower end are Clearwire's 3G customers.
http://www.dslreports.com/archive/clearwire-wmx.net .  DSL reports hasn't separated clear from Clearwire services yet.
